Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 30, 2026
My Shelves keeps a list of the books you own, on shelves you name. It has no accounts, no servers of its own, and no analytics. This policy explains the little information involved in using it.
1. Your library stays on your device
Your shelves, the books on them and their cover images are stored only on your iPhone. They are never sent to us, and we cannot see them. Deleting the app deletes them.
2. Looking up a book
When you scan a barcode or search for a title, My Shelves sends that ISBN or search text to public book catalogues — Open Library (openlibrary.org, run by the Internet Archive) and Google Books — to find the book's title, author, page count and cover. Cover images are downloaded from those catalogues. As with any internet request, these services see your device's IP address. Nothing else about you is sent. Their own policies: Internet Archive and Google.
3. The camera
The camera is used only to read the barcode on the back of a book, on your device. No photos or video are recorded, stored or sent anywhere. You can turn camera access off in Settings and type an ISBN or search by title instead.
4. No tracking, ads or accounts
My Shelves contains no advertising or analytics SDKs, does not use the advertising identifier, does not track you across apps or websites, and never asks for your name, email or phone number.
5. Children
My Shelves is a general-audience app and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
6. Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with an updated date.
